Hello, my name is Alex and I’m a graduate from Simon Fraser University (BSc, 2003). Life Insurance – Whole life insurance is used mainly to cover your final expenses, inheritors’ capital-gain tax, or simply to transfer wealth to the next generation. It is also a form of retirement savings. It can be paid-up over a number of years and then you can stop paying into it if you wish, yet maintain the same benefit. Term life insurance costs less because you are only covered while paying monthly premiums, and is used mainly to cover debts (mortgages, car loans) and lost income if something goes wrong during your working years. Universal life insurance combines life insurance with a set of long-term investments.


Critical Illness Insurance – When you are diagnosed with a serious medical problem or disease, you do not want to worry about earning income to take care of yourself and your family. It is nice to know there is financial help available, so you can concentrate on a speedy recovery instead.


Disability Insurance – If you become unable to perform your work duties, you can still receive an income close to what you earn now for a number of years. You will be happy to know that you can still make your mortgage payments and pay your other expenses if you fall victim to injury or sickness, on or off the job.


Medical and Dental Insurance – We all know that government programs, or even work-sponsored group benefits, do not cover all of our medical and dental expenses. There are programs available that can cover substantial unplanned expenses.


Travel Insurance – When you are travelling or living abroad, or visiting Canada from another country, you will want to know that expensive medical and emergency costs are covered. Other types of travel insurance include coverage for flight accidents, lost baggage, trip cancellations or interruptions, and rental car collisions.


RRSPs and RESPs – Whether you are saving for retirement with the help of tax-deferred investments in an RRPS, or saving for your child’s education with the aid of governments grants in an RESP, I can help you make the right decisions.


Insured Investments – Segregated funds are basically insured mutual funds and insured income funds. They are safer than regular funds, because the insurance contract can guarantee things such as principal investment, annual income, or market value at maturity regardless if the stock market does poor or well. Also, if you are nearing retirement and tired of managing your rental home, it may provide more income, in a safer and easier manner, if the equity were placed into a guaranteed investment fund.
