| Update on Canada Life second quarter and year-to-date financial results |
Great-West Lifeco continued to perform very well in the second quarter, reporting strong results with net earnings to common shareholders of $433 million compared to $413 million in the second quarter of 2009.
These results reflect the combined strength of our organization, including the conservative nature of our products and investment portfolio, our diversified businesses, and our ongoing focus on operational efficiency.
* Sales results for the first six months of 2010 have been very strong in all of our operating companies in Canada, the United States and Europe, with a 23 per cent increase in sales compared with the first six months of 2009.
* Great-West Lifeco's capital position remains very strong. Its Canadian operating subsidiary, Great-West Life, reported a Minimum Continuing Capital and Surplus Requirements (MCCSR) ratio of 202 per cent at June 30, 2010. In addition, Lifeco held approximately $1.0 billion in liquid assets at the holding company level, potentially available for deployment to its operating companies.
* Great-West Lifeco achieved a 15.2 per cent return on common shareholders' equity (ROE), consistent with its long-term objective.
* Great-West Lifeco declared a quarterly common dividend of $0.3075 per common share, unchanged from the previous quarter.
* Consolidated assets under administration at June 30, 2010 were $460.2 billion, up $1.6 billion from December 31, 2009.
* The strengthening of the Canadian dollar against the US dollar, the British pound and the euro had a negative impact of $33 million on Lifeco's second quarter net earnings when compared to the second quarter of 2009.

Great-West Lifeco performed very well in the first quarter, reporting strong results with net income to common shareholders of $441 million compared to $326 million in first quarter 2009.

· Our operating companies in Canada, the United States and Europe had exceptional sales results, with an increase in sales of 43% compared with the same period a year ago.

| Construction Begins on New Southern Medical School |
Kelowna September 23, 2008 – Premier Gordon Campbell kicked-off construction today for the home of the Southern Medical Program, which will train doctors in the Okanagan for the first time in B.C. history.
“The new Health Sciences Centre will allow the expansion of B.C.’s innovative distributed medical education program to southern B.C. and the Okanagan and Thompson region communities,” said Premier Campbell. “Between 1980 and 2001, not a single seat was added to medical education in B.C. Since 2001, we have expanded doctor training in B.C. by doubling the number of first year medical training seats and making medical education available in the North and Vancouver Island. This new facility continues that success and will be home to a program that will see doctors trained right here in the Okanagan for the first time ever.”

Abbotsford – Premier Gordon Campbell and Health Services Minister George Abbott celebrated a milestone in the history of health care in British Columbia today with the official opening of the new Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre.
“Today marks the completion of the single largest health-care capital investment in the history of our province,” said Premier Campbell. “Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is the first new regional hospital to be opened in British Columbia in over 30 years. This innovative new facility has been completed on-time and on-budget, and will help to ensure that patients receive quality health care closer to home.”
The hospital opened its doors to patients on Aug. 24 and the cancer centre began treating patients on Aug. 25.

| Expanded Screening to Improve Health of B.C. Babies |
Vancouver – Newborn babies in British Columbia will now be screened for more than three times as many disorders at birth that can be treated to avoid lifelong health issues, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.
“Newborn babies in British Columbia deserve the very best chance to a healthy life – that is why we are increasing the number of tests at birth to screen for 19 disorders, up from six,” said Premier Campbell.

Travel guidelines relaxed for insurance applicants

We have relaxed our travel guidelines for insurance applicants. It now may be possible to cover travel to Israel (excluding West Bank, Gaza & Golan Heights), Bahrain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates for up to eight weeks on a standard basis for life insurance, if the applicant is under age 75 and rated 250% or less. Other countries with a travel risk may also be standard for up to eight weeks of travel.
Critical illness may be available on a rated basis under the same circumstances.
The underwriter will consider factors such as plan reinsurer, length of travel, applicant's age and underwriting assessment when determinig if travel to a particular country is insurable.
Manulife's travel risk policy for countries is reviewed regularly and if a risk changes, our underwriting position will also change. We consider many factors, for example, war, terrorism, crime, civil unrest, disease, quality of medical care and claims adjudication environment.

Effective today, May 13, 2006, Manulife Financial is increasing the minimum face amount requirement for Family Term and Business Term. NEW Minimum Amount of Insurance per Insured Person for all ages is $100,000.
Effective today, May 13, 2006, Manulife Financial is increasing the minimum face amount requirement for Performax. For Single Life ages 0-15 it will be $50,000. For Single Life ages 16-80 it will be $100,000. For Joint Life all ages it is $100,000.
Exceptions to the Performax change: Original age conversions on Manulife term products sold prior to June 14, 2003 and for some group term conversions (where the contract specifically made Performax available).
Performax is Manulife’s whole life insurance plan.

Strong sales help drive record Q4 earnings of $908 million or $1.14 per share
Toronto – Manulife Financial Corporation on Feb 9, 2006 reported 2005 shareholders’ net income of $3,294 million, an increase of 29 per cent over 2004. Earnings per share were $4.11, 13 per cent higher than the $3.65 reported a year ago. Premiums and deposits increased 22 per cent over last year to a record $61.5 billion driven by strong organic growth and four additional months of contribution from John Hancock.
“We are very pleased to report record top and bottom line results for the company in 2005,” said Dominic D’Alessandro, President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Financial. “This continues our exceptional track record of strong earnings growth with an average annual growth rate of more than 20 per cent over the past decade. And with the successful integration of John Hancock now behind us, we look forward to building on the strengths of our combined operations.”

The Board of Standard Life today (Oct 17, 2005) confirms that it intends to recommend to members that the Company should demutualise and list on the London Stock Exchange, subject to satisfactory completion of all legal, regulatory and other processes. Standard Life will be writing to its eligible members before the end of October 2005 asking them to confirm their policy and contact details to ensure they receive their demutualisation entitlement. Most eligible members would receive free shares in place of their membership.

Most eligible members would receive free shares in place of their membership. For legal and practical reasons, some eligible members will not receive shares; these members would receive cash or policy enhancements instead.
Standard Life will seek members' approval at a Special General Meeting (SGM) expected to take place in May or June 2006. Members eligible to vote will be asked to vote on the proposals at the SGM. For demutualisation and flotation to go ahead at least 75% of those who vote will need to vote in favour of the proposals.
