Privacy

Privacy In April 2000, Bill C-6, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) became law in Canada, affecting all private sector organizations. The intention of this legislation is to protect an individual’s privacy, guarding against misuse and unwanted dissemination of their personal information by any organization. We acknowledge that in the course of a business relationship with a client, we will be required to collect personal information about that client. This may range from basic information like an individual’s name, address, telephone number, date of birth and marital status, to information such as credit history, insurance claims history, employment information, and even medical information. This information is collected from sources that can include the individual him/herself, insurance companies, credit organizations, medical and financial institutions and motor vehicle authorities.

Protect Yourself From Online Email Scam

To help you protect yourself against phishing attacks, we encourage you to follow these basic tips:
Be alert for suspicious emails.
Do not reply to email or pop-up messages asking for personal or financial information.
Regularly log into online accounts and check credit and debit card statements to ensure that all transactions are legitimate.
Use personal security technologies such as anti-virus, firewalls and anti-spam software, and keep them up to date.

1. Use a quality anti-virus program as often as possible, and update it regularly. Anti-virus programs can detect most common viruses, worms, and trojans which might be inserted into your computer.
2. Symantec, a world leader in Internet security technology, offers a free security check service which tests your exposure to a wide range of online threats. If you'd like to check your computer, please visit their web site: http://security.symantec.com
3. Protect your password. It is your access key to your Internet account. Do not reveal it to anyone.
4. Do not use passwords that incorporate your name, telephone number, address or birthday or those of any close friend or relative.
5. Clear the cache of your browser after visiting secure sites and before taking your computer to be serviced. Browsers generally cache, or locally store, images of pages you have downloaded to enhance performance. By clearing your cache after visiting secure sites, you can ensure that your financial information remains confidential so that no one else can view any confidential information you may have transmitted.
6. Do not send privileged account information via email (e.g. account numbers, passwords etc.).
